S-Chem: World-Class Operations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LLC, through a wholly-owned affiliate
(Arabian Chevron Phillips Petrochemical Company Ltd.), has joint venture projects
with the Saudi Industrial Investment Group (SIIG) in the Eastern Province industrial
city of Al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia: Saudi Chevron Phillips Company (SCP), Jubail Chevron
Phillips Company (JCP) and Saudi Polymers Company (SPCo). Collectively, these projects
are known as S-Chem.
SCP began operations in December 1999 and produces benzene, cyclohexane and gasoline
blendstocks. The facility’s performance in environmental excellence has been recognized
by the Royal Commission of Jubail as a past recipient of the Royal Commission Environmental
Award among primary industries. SCP was also the first private sector investment
in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s petrochemical industry. The facility is owned 50
percent by Arabian Chevron Phillips Petrochemical Company Ltd. and 50 percent by
the Saudi Industrial Investment Group.
JCP is another Saudi project located in the Eastern Province city of Al-Jubail.
This facility produces benzene, ethylbenzene, styrene, and propylene, and began
commercial production during the second half of 2008. JCP is owned 50 percent by
Arabian Chevron Phillips Petrochemical Company Ltd. and 50 percent by the Saudi
Industrial Investment Group.
SPCo is currently developing and constructing the NCP project. The NCP project represents
the next major strategic investment to build on successes thus far in the region.
Once complete, Saudi Polymers’ NCP project will include a world-class olefins cracker
and will produce ethylene, propylene, polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene and
1-hexene. SPCo began construction in January 2008, with mechanical completion expected
in early 2011. Commercial production is scheduled to begin in 4th Quarter 2011.
Saudi Polymers Company is a limited liability company incorporated in the Kingdom
of Saudi Arabia that will initially be owned 50 percent by Arabian Chevron Phillips
Petrochemical Company Limited (ACP), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Chevron Phillips
Chemical Company LLC, and 50 percent by Saudi Industrial Investment Group (SIIG).
Saudi Polymers Company will ultimately be owned 35 percent by ACP and 65 percent
by National Petrochemical Company (Petrochem), a new joint-stock company incorporated
in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Chevron Phillips Chemical and SIIG have also begun work on a polyamides project
to be developed in Al Jubail, which would produce polyamides for specialty markets.
